COURSE DETAILS

Duration: 8 hours + optional night ex.
Cost: $149 + HST / $199 + HST (includes night navigation)

Designed for all ages and navigation skill levels, this non-certification course teaches classroom-based map and compass skills, followed by outdoor navigation exercises (night navigation exercise is optional) in a nurturing team building/leadership environment.

Navigation exercises are conducted in hilly and wooded terrain if/when suitable. Participants should be dressed for appropriate environmental conditions and have reasonable fitness levels:

Average physical fitness - can walk 2-3 hrs on flat ground
(Basic level navigation legs: 200-300m by day)


Completion Requirements:

100% attendance and participation in practical evolutions


Course Content:

  • Identify parts of a compass
  • Identify map convention signs and marginal Information
  • Determine grid references
  • Determine bearings and distance on a map and on the ground
  • Introduction to team-building
  • Leadership training
  • Radio communications
  • Discipline on the march
  • Conduct navigation/leadership exercises by day
  • OPTIONAL: Night navigation exercises

Materials You Should Bring:

- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Small rucksack / hydration
- Personal lighting (ie. headlamp)
- Waterproof Notebook / writing material
- Ankle-height hiking boots in good condition
- Lunch / dinner and snacks


Materials Supplied:

Compass, training materials, and safety gear


Take-Home Materials:

Training Manual, Certificate of Completion
